OAU wins football gold at NUGA games
The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) men's team has defeated the University of Calabar men's team 1-0 to win the coveted football gold medal as the 24th Nigerian University Games came to an end on Saturday on the campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The game ended goalless at half time as Goal monitored events.
However, the hosts scored in the second half and kept their lead to win their first ever football gold in the competition's history. Their captain Ayo Faleti was also named the tournament's best player.
In the match for bronze medal, the University of Jos defeated the University of Lagos 3-1.
It was a time of rejoicing for coach Chike Egbunu-Olimene and his boys as their victory sent the university community and environs into rapturuous celebrations with chants of "Great Ife!!!" all over the place.
