Van Gaal keen on West Brom's Berahino

Louis van Gaal has instructed his Manchester United scouts to keep a close eye on Saido Berahino.

The striker was on target for West Brom in the 2-2 draw with United on October 20 and has caught Van Gaal's eye with seven Premier League goals from 11 appearances this season.

The Dutchman has been impressed by the Burundi-born 21-year-old and wants his scouting team to monitor the striker in the coming weeks.

Old Trafford executive vice chairman Ed Woodward indicated on Tuesday that there was a "low probability" that United would do any business in January, though it was initially Van Gaal's intention to bring in defensive cover this winter.

Goal understands Van Gaal and his backroom staff have already drawn up a primary and secondary list of transfer targets for the summer, and United would be unlikely to make a move for Berahino until the end of the season.
