Super Falcons Retain No.1 Spot in Africa, Rise to 37th in Latest FIFA World Rankings Despite No Matches

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their status as Africa’s top-ranked women’s national team after climbing to 37th in the world in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking released this week.

Remarkably, the nine-time African champions achieved the jump despite not playing any matches during the most recent women’s international window. Their ranking points now stand at 1607.063, placing them comfortably ahead of their African rivals.

African Rankings from the Latest FIFA List

Based on the released standings:

  • 1st in Africa / 37th in the world — Nigeria 🇳🇬 — 1607.063 pts
  • South Africa 🇿🇦 — 55th — 1458.733 pts
  • Ghana 🇬🇭 — 62nd — 1412.737 pts
  • Zambia 🇿🇲 — 64th — 1403.415 pts
  • Morocco 🇲🇦 — 66th — 1399.536 pts

  • Senegal 🇸🇳 — 81st — 1289.670 pts
  • Mali 🇲🇱 — 85th — 1260.357 pts

Consistency Without Matches

Despite missing the last women’s international break due to scheduling and preparation gaps, the Super Falcons benefitted from the global points reshuffle caused by matches played by other nations.

Their strong performances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Nigeria went unbeaten in the group stage and reached the Round of 16, continue to influence their ranking positively.

Dominance on the Continent

The latest ranking confirms what many analysts have maintained:
Nigeria remains the most consistent women’s football powerhouse in Africa.

The Super Falcons have:

  • Won 9 African Women’s Cup of Nations titles,
  • Reached every FIFA Women’s World Cup since 1991,
  • Produced some of the continent’s biggest stars, including Asisat Oshoala, Christy Ucheibe, and Rasheedat Ajibade.

Looking Ahead

With the next international window approaching and preparations ongoing for upcoming qualifiers, the Super Falcons will look to consolidate their position by returning to action soon.

Their rise to 37th globally—without kicking a ball—demonstrates the weight of their past achievements and the respect they command on the world stage.
